NAITASIRI Rugby Union coach Koli Sewabu plans to expand his search for players in the villages in the highlands of the province.
Sewabu said starting with tens rugby, it was hard to get players back into their normal training routine but a few clubs coming in to play was a good sign to them.
“This competition is basically to pick our team for next Saturday to play in the Fiji Rugby Union provincial 10s and we will see what our next step is,” he said.
“We will be hosting three more 10s that will be in Vunidawa, Waidina and Wainimala up in the hills and the idea is to kick-start the rugby club competition with the 10s tournament.
“Get the players back into the system of training and then we will begin our club games and we will pick teams from each of the zones and from there we will select a wider Naitasiri squad to play in the Skipper Cup competition this year.”
With the introduction of a women’s team to also play in this year’s provincial competition, Sewabu added it will be a big boost for the province to have women coming to play rugby.
