WITH the theme “Rise Fiji Rise” still intact, the Suva Rugby Union is taking a 7s tournament to Levuka as a way of giving back to the community.
The two-day tournament will be held at Nasau Park tomorrow and Saturday.
Tournament co-ordinator and union executive committee Naca Radravu said it was vital for the union to host the tournament at the Old Capital.
“Not only we want to entertain villages on Ovalau, we want to help in the economic development of their livelihood,” the Ucunivanua, Verata, Tailevu man said.
“By taking the tournament across the sea will give nearby villages a chance to gain income in the two days of rugby 7s.
“Even though the two days may be less but the impact it will give Levuka dwellers is something for them to take home.”
“Taking the tournament to the grassroots community will help boost their morale and also it’s a way of the union to spread the gospel of rugby to young children.
“We will be conducting workshops with our stakeholder in the fight against drugs as well.”
Radravu said they would be taking across to Levuka the message of stop “violence against women and children”.
“This is a chance to showcase community building and how we can combat COVID-19 and its impact,” he said.
