THE appointment of Welshman Gareth Baber as national sevens coach comes as no surprise.
He was probably the most logical contender after Samoa snapped up the retiring Sir Gordon Tietjens.
Baber will obviously find that coaching the Fijians will be a challenge because we are the world champions and we demand the best because we’ve got the best.
So the nation should wholeheartedly support the new coach and the players as we begin a new journey.
The players should rise to the occasion, forget about our past laurels and carry on the standards and legacy that Ben Ryan has left. As the saying goes… ‘It’s not the dog in the fights, it’s the fight in the dog!’
