Lovu Seaside resident Surmila Devi says the settlement has received more than its fair share of severe rain that has thrice flooded homes in the span of a month.

“There are over 400 houses in this area and nearly all have been affected by heavy flooding,” she said.

Ms Devi said the flooding not only damaged household valuables but also brought in mud that took days to clean.

“I have been living here for the past 18 years and not a single year has gone by that we are not affected by floodwaters.”

Ms Devi said a nearby creek got flooded during downpours, forcing water overflows into the area along with water spilling over as a result of multiple drainage problems.

Fellow resident Rajesh Sharma said the floodwaters contributed to breeding grounds for diseases such as typhoid and other diseases.
