Serving prisoner appeals sentence and conviction

A MAN who was sentenced to 68 months imprisonment with a non-parole period of 60 months has appealed against his sentence and conviction at the High Court in Suva.

The Court heard that Raman Prasad who appeared before judge Justice Riyaz Hamza had filed his appeal within time and the High Court had jurisdiction to hear the matter.

It was also revealed in court that Prasad had been sentenced for a charge of sexual assault.

Justice Hamza ordered that the Magistrates Court records are to be made  available to court before the next court date.

The matter has been adjourned to March 2.
