FIJIAN Drua head coach Senirusi Seruvakula has confirmed with Fiji Times Sports that he also applied for the Flying Fijians coaching job opportunity.

“Yes, I’ve also applied for the position and I have nothing to lose but I will take my chances and give it a shot,” said Seruvakula in a telephone interview yesterday.

Seruvakula has had a colourful coaching background grooming local talents to becoming professional rugby players renowned across the South Pacific and the world.

One of his latest achievements was assisting John McKee and the locally-based Flying Fijian players edge a star-studded Barbarians side 33-31 last month after a drought of 49 years.

In 2017, Seruvakula coached the first group of local players to participate in the Australian National Rugby Championship and they reached the semifinals.

And in the following year (2018), he created history as the first team outside Australia to win the NRC.

Apart from the Drua and the Flying Fijians victory at Twickenham in London, he has also led the Warriors and the Latui to many victorious battles.

Now, he is gunning for the big job as the next Flying Fijians coach.

The application for the Flying Fijians head coach closes on December 14.

The new coach will be announced before December 31, together with the announcement of the new FRU general manager.
