Series called off

THE Athletics Fiji’s second and third round of the grand prix series has been further postponed.

The Shop N Save-sponsored event was created to provide local athletes with more competition and to ensure a more active domestic calendar for the association.

The association’s chief development officer, Joseph Rodan Jr, said they would allow the athletes who were affected and their families to recover before a definite date could be decided upon.

“At this point we can’t decide on when because we were supposed to have two legs of the series in the West. I think it would be insensitive of us to go ahead and do it. Even for the one in Suva, the stadium is closed at the moment so we can’t go through with it,” he said.

Rodan Jr added discussions had been made by the association on organising a charity drive towards relief efforts, however, they would wait for management for a decision when president, Joseph Rodan Sr returns to Viti Levu today.

“Nothing has been formalised as of yet, but the decisions would have to be made by our management.

“Right now our priority has been to establish communication with our athletes.

“Even though plans have been discussed, we would have to be realistic of what we can do because we are also a non-profit organisation,” Rodan Jr added.
