RUSSIA men’s 7s coach and sevens maestro Waisale Serevi believes that there is room for more dialogue between the coach and players.
The former Fiji captain and coach said those players representing the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team must keep to the game plan that had been set by coach Gareth Baber.
“The coaches and management, they decide what is best for the team,” Serevi said.
“But they also have to talk.”
Serevi said that no coach sets a plan for his team to lose, and now that coach Baber had set his game plan the best thing the players could do was work with that plan.
“There are injuries in the team, but that shows how tough the series is,” he said.
Serevi also believes that age is not a barrier when selecting players to represent Fiji, especially in sevens.
“I was 37 years old and was named the best player during the Rugby World Cup Sevens in 2005, and that is just a comparison to these young warriors.
“They are still young good players and they must trust each other and work hard if they want that win in Hong Kong.”
The Fiji 7s team finalised preparations in the Western Division yesterday before they will fly out for the next leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Hong Kong where they hope to win its fifth consecutive HK title.
