FIJI’s prestigious Fiji Performing Rights Association Music Awards will take place on May 8 after it was cancelled last year because of COVID-19.
This was revealed by FPRA director Seru Serevi, who said that this year’s event would pay homage to recognised musicians of 2020 and 2021.
Serevi revealed that the names of last year’s award winners would be announced on May 7 at an event prior to the awards night.
“We’re glad we can go ahead with the event this year and so are our members and music lovers that look forward to this event annually,” he said.
“Hopefully by the time the awards happen, COVID restrictions and curfews would’ve lifted and we encourage Fijians to come down and enjoy the night.
“With COVID and the hardships lately, we have lowered our prices from the usual $150 and $200 dollars to $100. We want it to be more affordable so people can come down to enjoy the night of entertainment.”
Artist, Saimone Vuatalevu said the top three nominees for all 15 categories would be announced on March 20 at a separate event.
“The event will be held at Thurston Garden from 2pm to 5pm open to the public,” said Vuatalevu.
“The admission will be $5 for adults and $2 for children and we hope families come down in numbers to enjoy the entertainment and hear the announcement of the nominees.
“This is the chance for people to meet their favourite local artists and enjoy the music with a $5 or $2 admission fee compared with the $100 fees event held at the GPH in the past.”
Vuatalevu said entry nominations closed on Friday the February 26 so judges could sort categories on March 6 and 7.
