Senior students learn leadership, communication

TWENTY high school students from the greater Suva area are taking advantage of a training programm aimed at teaching youths leadership and communication skills. 
The first- ever ‘Upskill Yourself” initiative is for children between Years 11 to 13 and teachers basic communication and leadership fun interactive activities to drive the lessons home.

Coordinator for Upskill Yourself Veronica Naiwaqa said she this was a volunteer program where she hoped to inspire and motivate students to be more confident speakers and leaders.

“I want to train the Fijian people to become eloquent speakers and future leaders,” she said. “I hope to do these training events in the west and rural communities for students who aren’t exposed to such activities.”

With prior experience in Toast Masters Fiji, a similar club activity to the program, Ms Naiwaqa said this was a constructive way for students to spend their school break.

Jasper High School student Amete Nagatalevu said through the training, she hoped to build more confidence that would help in her public speaking.
