Senior citizens must receive best care from society: Vuniwaqa

SENIOR citizens must receive the best care from members of the public during this period of their lives.

This was the gist of the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa’s message while officiating at the celebration to mark International Day of Older Persons at the Golden Age Home in Lautoka today.

Mrs Vuniwaqa highlighted the important responsibility society played to ensure senior citizens received the best care at their most vulnerable stage in life now that Fiji’s older population was increasing by 3000 people annually.

Celebrations began with a march and included an open day exhibition by the Fijian Elections Office and Fiji Red Cross Society.

Mrs Vuniwaqa toured the Golden Age Home and also shared words of encouragement with bedridden residents.

Guests included elderly members of the community from the Luvu HART Home in Lautoka.
