A 66-YEAR-old man convicted of four counts of rape has been sentenced to 15 years and nine months imprisonment by the High Court in Suva.
The court heard the man who was a guardian of the 16-year-old victim raped her on several occasions in the year 2014 and 2016 in Ba and in Rewa.
The accused first raped the girl when she was 12-years-old, and again repeated the same when she was 14-years-old.
High Court judge Justice Vinsent Perera said the accused exploited the victim’s vulnerability considering she had no one to look after her.
A non-parole period of 12 years and nine months has been set.
