Senior citizen among sexual offences statistics

A 53-YEAR-old man was charged for the alleged rape of his 12–year-old granddaughter last month.
This was revealed in the Rape and Sexual Offences Statistics for April 2019 released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) today.
The grandfather was also charged for attempted rape and sexual assault of his granddaughter.
According to the statistics, a total of 20 people were charged with a total of 57 counts, which accounted for separate incidents in April.
The offences were rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, defilement, and sexual assault.
There were 21 victims of whom two were males and 19 females, and 13 victims were under the age of 18 years.
The statistics further revealed that of the 20 people charged, two were juveniles and one was a police officer.
It also noted four incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.
