Seismic activity: 5 magnitude earthquake recorded in Suva

A 5 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Suva region this morning.

The seismic activity was recorded at 6.51am.

It was recorded 621 km South from Suva, 740 km NorthWest from Tongatapu, Tonga, and 1,354 km East from Noumea, New Caledonia.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department stated that the moderate earthquake with a deep depth source location of 540km occurred 621 km South from Suva.

However, it stated that the earthquake did not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.
