Seismic activity: 5.7 mag earthquake recorded in Fiji region

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Fiji group this afternoon.

The earthquake, which occurred at 3.45pm, was at a depth of 610km.

According to the Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources Department, the earthquake was located 152km South West form Matokana Village in Ono-i-Lau, 442km West from Nuku’alofa in Tonga, and 469km South-Southeast from Suva.

The department stated the seismic activity did not pose any immediate threat to the region.
