Seismic activity: 5.2 mag quake recorded in Viwa region

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Viwa Island region in Yasawa yesterday afternoon.

The seismic activity was recorded at 5.18pm.

According to the Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department, the earthquake was recorded 256km Northwest from Viwa Island, 325km North-northwest from Nadi, and 437km Northwest from Suva.

The unit stated that the moderate earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10km, but it did not pose an immediate tsunami threat to the region.
