Seismic activity: 5.0 magnitude earthquake recorded in Ono-i-Lau

A 5.0 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded in the Ono-i-Lau region this afternoon.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department stated the earthquake occurred at a depth of 547km.

It was recorded 356km South-Southwest from Doi Village in Ono-i-Lau; 564km South-Southeast from Vunisea, Kadavu; and 650km South-Southeast from Suva.

According to the department, that was a moderate earthquake with a deep depth and it did not pose any immediate threat to the Fiji region.
