Seismic activity: 5.0 mag quake recorded in Ono-i-Lau region

A 5.0 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded this afternoon in the Ono-i-Lau region.

The seismic activity occurred at 1.08pm at a depth of 562km.

According to the Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department, the earthquake was recorded 135km Northeast from Doi Village in Ono-i-Lau, 291km Northwest from Nuku’alofa, Tonga, and 455k, South-Southeast from Suva.

According to the department, the earthquake did not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.

The department said the moderate earthquake occurred at a deep depth and did not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.
