Seismic activity: 5.0 mag earthquake recorded in Fiji waters

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded Northeast from Labasa last night.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources Department said the earthquake occurred at 9.27pm.

The seismic activity was recorded 338.49km Northeast of Labasa, 368.83km Northeast of Savusavu, and 1085km Northeast of Suva.

It stated that the moderate earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 5km, and it did not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.
