Secretary general appointed

AHEAD of Fiji’s return to parliamentary democracy, Viniana Namosimalua has been appointed the new secretary general to Parliament.Ms Namosimalua’s appointment was confirmed by Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in Suva yesterday.
Speaking to the media following her appointment, the former secretary to cabinet said her role in controlling and looking after the operations of the Parliament was challenging.
“I’m very humbled to take this responsibility because I know it’s a very huge one and I’m ready to take it on,” she said.
Ms Namosimalua who has been appointed for the next four years said she hoped to inspire ordinary Fijians.
“I am ready to take it on. I know that it will be a challenge but I am ready – knowing that this institution will inspire the lives of Fijians – transparency and accountability. What the members will do in Parliament will help the people of Fiji to value that.”
The deputy secretary to Parliament is Mary Qiliaso.
