THE Xavier College Under 19 team is chasing a piece of history in this year’s Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Football Association Championship.

The side defeated Tilak High School 1-0 in the quarter-final held at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park yesterday and is on track to fulfill its goal.

Striker Simone Nabenu was the toast for his school team after scoring the winner in the second spell.

Nabenu received a well-timed cross kick and slowly tapped the ball past the Tilak goalkeeper.

The Ba-based side continued to apply pressure but missed out some easy scoring opportunities.

Tilak, on the other hand, also had their moments but failed to capitalise on their possessions and also missed out scoring opportunities.

Xavier coach Krishneel Singh said his players had the potential to stamp their mark this year.

He said they boys had gelled well and would be out to deliver the goods for their school.

“Our aim is to create history this year,” said Singh.

“We haven’t won this title and we will be out to create history this year.

“We are confident of our chances and we will further improve in the semi-final.”

Singh said Tilak gave his boys a good test that would best prepare them for the semi-final.

“The semi-final is expected to be tougher but I believe we have set the platform against Tilak.

“We just have to keep the momentum and improve on our game combination,” he added.
