Second Valelevu road accident victim dies

THE second victim of the tragic motor vehicle accident in Valelevu on Sunday has passed away.

According to Police, the 35-year-old woman who was admitted in a critical condition following the accident died at the CWM hospital.

She was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit after being rushed to the hospital along with two others from the accident scene.

The three were walking along Kanace Rd when the driver, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, allegedly lost control of his vehicle and hit the three on the side of the road.

The first victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Police have, however, confirmed that the third victim is still recovering at the Acute Surgical Ward.

The road death toll stands at 55 compared to 48 for the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old driver was charged earlier this week with one count of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, drunk driving and two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
