Second CEDAW reflects on Government’s position

THE Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation-organised 2nd CEDAW Working Committee Meeting in Nadi looked at the various measures and areas that have been implemented by the Government to highlight Fiji’s progress in committing to the Convention.

Ministry permanent secretary Jennifer Poole emphasised the importance of the CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) Working Committee to provide the technical support and advice on the implementation of the 16 Articles of the Convention.

She said the meeting reflected on the Government’s position in upholding the rights of women’s and girls and in our commitment to ensuring equality for all,” Ms Poole said.

She also acknowledged the support shown by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community Regional Rights Resource Team for providing the facilitators for this meeting.

“This consultative preparatory work is a critical process towards the implementation of the 16 Articles of the Convention is progressing well.”

The two-day meeting ended last Friday.
