ENERGY Fiji Ltd’s Qeleloa solar farm in Nadi has received the seal of approval from the Environment Department.
Director of Environment Sandeep Singh said EFL and Viti Renewable Pte Ltd had been given certain conditions along with the approval from Government.
“They received their approval in June along with conditions that they have to meet,” she said.
“Some of the conditions include land clearance, sedimentation control and water quality which they have to look at.”
She said there were two more renewable energy projects that the environment department was carrying out environment impact assessments (EIA) for.
According to EFL, the solar farm would be situated on six acres of land.
EFL special projects general manager Anand Nanjangud said the project was expected to be commissioned in July next year.
He said the joint venture was expected to produce five megawatts of renewable energy.
