Scottish’s trainer Charlie Appleby made the announcement from his Moulton Paddocks base at Newmarket in England.
“Scottish has continued to do well since the Caulfield Cup and we are happy to have him dropping back in distance, from 2400m to 2000m for the Emirates (Stakes),” Appleby told the Godolphin website.
With Scottish now out of the Melbourne Cup, stablemate Qewy moves into 24th place in the order of entry.
Qewy won the Geelong Cup at his only Australian start last Wednesday and was given a half-kilo Melbourne Cup penalty for that success, increasing his weight to 50.5kg for next Tuesday.
Godolphin’s global operation are still expected to have at least five runners in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.
Hartnell (6th in the order of entry) will represent John O’Shea, Beautiful Romance (19th*) and Secret Number (22nd*) are expected to run for Saeed bin Suroor while Qewy (24th*) is now into the field for Appleby.
