Schools will be closed until the Ministry of Education receives a clearance from the National Disaster Management Office.

In a statement, the ministry said a post circulating on social media regarding the reopening of schools on January 17 was fake news.

“It is disappointing to learn that people are circulating fake school reopening dates which can cause confusion, especially to families who have taken refuge in schools being used as evacuation centres, as well as other families who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Cody,” the ministry said.

“The ministry urges Fijians to be vigilant on what information they believe – if you do not see it on our Facebook page or the Fijian Government’s Facebook page, then please do not believe it.”
