EDUCATION is the most powerful empowerment tool which can be used to bring about positive changes in our communities, says Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa.

Mrs Vuniwaqa made this comment while giving out school stationery packs to about 100 students of Nanuku Settlement in Vatuwaqa, Suva last week.

She said the initiative by the ministry was to assist families and was a practical way of ensuring that children from underprivileged families could continue to have access to education.

“Education is a basic right of all children and an essential element in preparing them for later life when they would eventually complete their education and move into the work force,” she said.

Mrs Vuniwaqa also urged the students to make good use of the stationery.

The students ranged from Year 1 to Year 13 and attended various schools. The packages included exercise books, book covers and other everyday school stationery items.
