The Suva Marathon Club’s partnership with Namosi Secondary School is slowly showing its results.

The school recently took part in the Suva Zone 1 athletics competition and made a clean sweep of the 1500 metres events in the boys and girls divisions.

Namosi Marathon event director Marita Manley said it was good to see the school progress since coming onboard with them.

“Interior schools often struggle to access the same level of support to attend athletics events in Suva or to get access to coaching expertise – but they have such incredible natural talents for long distance events and we hope that we can continue to work with rural schools to build the number of long distance runners in the country,” she said.

Fifteen athletes from the school will take part at the marathon this year.

Meanwhile, Xavier College in Ba will field nine athletes across for the event.
