When the mind is liberated through education, the deaf will hear.

These were the words of Year 6 Gospel School for the Deaf student Pita Tuisawau during an early celebration of International Week of the Deaf in Suva last Friday.

School headteacher Nirmal Mudaliar said they had an early celebration on Friday because it was the last day for the school term.

“The celebration date is September 21-25 but because school holidays begin on Monday, we had to move the celebration to an early date,” she said.

Ms Mudaliar said with the theme ‘Sign Language Rights for All’, students and teachers of Gospel School for the Deaf had organised to mark the celebration on the day.
