School children in Yacata, Qamea still study under tents

SCHOOL children in Yacata and Qamea were attending classes in church buildings and tents, three years after Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston destroyed facilities in both areas.

And Education Officer Cakaudrove Madhu Swami told the recent Cakaudrove Provincial Council that he had not received any response from the Ministry of Education headquarters regarding the reconstruction of schools on Yacata, Qamea and other affected areas of Cakaudrove.

Council members had questioned the ministry’s priorities in dealing with the issue.
