World Heart Day celebrated globally yesterday, aimed at drawing people’s attention to raise awareness on cardiovascular disease, the world’s number one killer.

The theme for 2022 is ‘Use heart for every heart’ which is focused towards creating awareness on the risk of death from heart-related diseases.

At Marist Brothers High School in Suva, where celebrations were held, 16-year-old rheumatic heart disease (RHD) survivor Jonathan Lord said he was emotional while speaking at the event.

“I contracted RHD when I was seven years old and I was very fortunate to have been treated for it at a young age,” he said. “I was very much emotional and privileged to be given the opportunity to share my story and also happy to pioneer this celebration in my school.”
