THE unplanned power outage in parts of Savusavu today was due to an accident damaging an Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) power pole.

EFL Acting Chief Executive Officer, Bobby Naimawi in a statement issued today said there was an unplanned power outage that occurred at 6:21am this morning.

Mr Naimawi said the outage was due to a vehicle colliding with an EFL power pole near Wailevu in Savusavu.

“This accident caused power disruption to our valued customers in the surrounding areas who are provided electricity supply via the Savusavu – Wainique Interconnector Feeder,” Mr Naimawi said.

“EFL teams were able to isolate the incident area and restore power supply to most of the affected areas by 7:36am,” he said.

Mr Naimawi said this unplanned power outage in Savusavu is currently affecting the following areas:

Belego, Biula, Levuka, Nabalebale, Korovou, Vakativa, Naloaloa, Dreketi, Nacedreudreu, Vunisoni, Wailevu, Navatuloa, Natiditidi, Waiwai, Estate, Waibalabala Estate, Sarava, Nakasa, Tuvurara, and Uluivalili

“EFL teams are currently in the process of replacing the damaged EFL Power pole and weather permitting, it is an estimated that repairs would be completed by late evening today, before power supply is normalized in the remaining affected areas.

“EFL requests drivers to exercise caution while driving and maneuvering vehicles to avoid causing damages to EFL assets resulting in power outages.

“EFL sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused to all our valued customers due to this unplanned power outage which was beyond our control.”
