Savusavu resident L’otu Walter Lanyon has been sentenced to three years in prison.

He appeared before High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo who reminded him that his jail term was to deter others from committing the same crime and to protect the community from people like him.

Lanyon pleaded guilty to a charge of act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm when he appeared last week.

He had assaulted and injured a foreign investor by hitting her with a spade three times in March this year.

Justice Temo said the victim now had metal plates in her left hand and spent more than AUD$10,000 to get medically treated.

“You need to learn to resolve your matter peacefully,” Justice Temo said.
