WHEN Ahmed Shah received bullet shots to his body in the Christchurch mass shootings last Friday, the only thing he was thinking about was his children.
Originally from Kabul Afghanistan, Mr Shah has two children, a thirteen year old daughter and nine year old son and looks after them after getting separated from his wife eight years ago.
Speaking in Hindi to Radio Apna from his bed at the Christchurch hospital in New Zealand, Mr Shah said it is only by God’s grace that he is still breathing.
Speaking from Christchurch Hospital he said the shooter walked into the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch and started shooting everyone and anyone he saw.
(Jo bhi saamne aata un sabko woh marta tha. Toh kya huwa, kaafi log maare gaye, toh fir who bahar gaya. Jo road ke paas log Masjid me aa rahe the toh unko bhi marna shuru kiya)
“Whoever came across he shot bullets at everyone. So a lot of people died then he went outside. Those standing on the road and were coming towards the Mosque he started shooting at them as well,” he said.
(Hum logo ke dead body ke beech chup gaya tha. Us time mere ko goli nahi laga tha. Woh jab wapas aya toh mujhe do goli laga. Ek goli kamar me laga aur ek goli kurde me maara.)
“I hid in between bodies of those who had died. I wasn’t shot at that time. I was shot twice when he came back. One bullet hit my hips while another was shot near my kidney,” he added.
He added that he tried to get help after getting shot.

Maine lagbhag pachis minute tak logo se help manga. Sab aana jaana tab tak rok diya gaya tha isi liye log meri kuch khaas madad nahi kar paye. Us time tak mera bleeding kaafi zyada ho gaya tha. Fir mere ko baat karne me bahut dikkat ho raha tha. Pareshaani ho rahi thi aur main baat bhi nahi kar paa raha tha. Kuch logo ne mujhe fir ambulane tak pahuchaya.)
“After getting shot, I tried coming out. I came out on the road. There was no Police or ambulance at that time. I asked for help from people on the road. I asked for help for about twenty five minutes. All movement had been stopped by then that’s why people couldn’t do much. By now, my bleeding had increased. I had difficulties in talking and I was tensed. Then some people helped me to an ambulance,” he added.
He is recovering in Christchurch hospital and according to him is now out of danger.
