SAMOAN coach Gordon Tietjens knows how difficult it will be to win the Oceania 7s title this weekend.

The former All Blacks 7s coach says rugby sevens is the sport for the Pacific Islands.

“There’s no Pacific island team that doesn’t know how to pay the game of sevens. I have always said that Fiji can send four teams to the series tournaments and they can all make the quarter-finals,” Tietjens said.

He said Samoa was on a developing phase and learning from the big guns.

“The challenge will be for Samoa. We do not have the depth that we have here in Fiji. We are trying to build the depth and we can do that once we bring the younger players through.”

Samoa is in Pool D with Tonga, Tuvalu and Niue.

The games begin at 11am at Suva’s ANZ Stadium today.
