Sam Lee to compete in Vanuatu open

TOP local-based professional Sam Lee will be out to better his performance when he participates in the Vanuatu Golf Open which starts at the Port Vila Golf and Country Club on August 27.

Lee finished in fifth position last year carding a score of 12 under par.

The event was won by Australian Ryan Gaske who scored 16 under par.

This will be the 35th edition of the tournament and is offering a total prize purse of $50,000 for the professionals.

Fiji Professional Golfers Association secretary Amitesh Chandra said eight professionals and seven amateurs would fly Fiji’s flag at the championship.

“The boys have decided to make this trip an annual event as a means of team bonding and friendship,” he said.

“Last year there were ten participants from Fiji. This year the number has increased to 15. The boys are hoping to stamp their mark on the leaderboard.”

The professionals who will participate from Fiji are Roneel Prakash (Lautoka Golf Club); Vikrant Chandra (Ba Golf Club); Amitesh Chandra, Munesh Prasad, Ritesh Chandra, Sam Lee, Viliame Sorowale (Denarau Golf and Racquet Club) and Paul Muni (Laucala Island Golf Club). In the amateur category, there is a mix of A, B and C graders. They include Rohit Chandra (Ba Golf Club); Kavit Karan, Ram Reddy, Praveer Chand (Denarau Golf and Racquet Club) and Avinesh Datt (Natadola Golf Club).
