THE pay increment for teachers will be paid this year, says Education Minister Rosy Akbar.

She said teachers who were found to be qualified following the annual performance assessment (APA) or appraisal of teachers performance would be remunerated accordingly.

Ms Akbar also gave the assurance to teachers in Parliament last week.

The first increment pay for teachers was due in August last year and it was deemed to be paid out after the annual assessment.

During the Fijian Teachers Association (FTA) meeting this year, Ms Akbar had openly apologised to teachers for the delay.

The second increment is due in August.

“You got to understand that APA payments will be based on performance,” she said in Parliament.

“Yes, I can assure the teachers we have completed that and that APA payment will come from this year’s budget, not next year’s budget.”
