FIJI’S Minister for Education Rosy Akbar has reminded school principals that it was safer to remember not to touch any student at all.

“I remind you of our zero tolerance policy to corporal punishment and any form of assault – it is perhaps simpler and safer to remember not to touch any student at all,” Ms Akbar said while addressing principals at the 123rd Fiji Principals Association conference in Lami yesterday.

She said it was imperative for school leaders to be aware of their roles and responsibilities.

“We want to have teachers who, regardless of the subject they teach, are committed to improving literacy and numeracy.

“I believe that teachers have so much to offer if they are encouraged to do so by their leaders.”

More reports from the Fiji Principals Association conference is published in today’s edition of The Fiji Times.
