THIEVES broke into a Hindu temple on Saturday night and walked away with a sound system and other electronic items.

Temple priest Hitendra Shastri said he was saddened by the alleged act of sacrilege at the Vishnu Temple along Vitogo Pde in Lautoka last weekend.

“A place of worship should not be treated like this,” he said.

“People know that committing such an act against a place of prayer is a sin, and I’m saddened that people would do something like this.”

He said the thieves broke the temple’s donation box but did not find any cash.

“When they couldn’t find money, they then took items they could sell.

“They even broke into my office.

“I’ve been at this temple since 2007 and this is the first time I’ve come across something like this.”

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Jokatama Qio confirmed a report was lodged at the Lautoka Police Station over the weekend.

He said investigations were continuing, adding no suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.
