THE Russian team has learnt a thing or two during the weekend at the Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay, Suva.

Head coach Waisale Serevi said he was satisfied with the performance of the team even though there were a few areas that needed to be worked on.

“Before the tournament, I was a little bit nervous because it was the first time for them to come to Fiji for the Marist tournament. I have a high level of respect for the Marist tournament as the level of competition is tough and tight,” said Serevi.

“The performance of the team in making it to the top eight is impressive and I am very happy, we were just unlucky to lose to police in the plate final,” he added.

The Sevens Maestro said the team had learnt a few lessons they would take with them to the Hong Kong Sevens next weekend.

“For us winning would just be a bonus but we need to learn things to try and better this weekend’s performance.

“We will need to better our possession and our defence to improve, we are glad that we got all that extra experience from this Marist Sevens,” said Serevi.

The team will be looking to make a difference at the fourth leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

“There will be a lot of tough teams out there, we know the competition will be tough but nothing is impossible.

“Our aim is to play hard to qualify for the Summer Olympics and that is what I will try and help Russia with,” said Serevi.
