THE Rugby League International Federation Board has approved in principle a rolling calendar of matches for the next eight years.

This will see an introduction of an Oceania Cup in which Fiji will feature in a pool with Samoa and Papua New Guinea.

Fiji Bati Residents manager Chris Tomlinson was upbeat about the announcement.

“This is great news for the local boys playing rugby league in Fiji,” he said.

Also agreed at a Congress in the UK, attended by Fiji National Rugby League chairman Peni Musnanamasi, is a Great Britain Rugby League Lions Tour to the Southern Hemisphere in 2019 where they are also expected to play Fiji.

2019 will also see Australia hosting the inaugural RLIF Nines World Cup which will see teams from across the world gather to compete in this innovative and exciting form of the game.

This will feature both men’s and women’s competitions.

The Residents play their first game on Thursday, November 15, against Australia Affiliated States at Prince Charles Park (3pm kick-off) followed by a Test against BARLA on Saturday 17th November at Lawaqa Park.

Fiji Bati Residents close the tri-series with their second games against Australia Affiliated States at Prince Charles Park on the 23rd November (3pm kick-off).
