The local rugby fraternity is mourning the loss of one its greats, Savenaca Aria.

Aria hails from Nawaka Village and was known as one of Fiji’s best outside centre during the 1980s and 90s.

The 55-year-old represented the Nawaka Rugby Club in many 7s tournaments and also featured for the Nadi Rugby Union in 15s and 7s.

Aria made his debut for the Flying Fijians against Wales on May 31, 1986, in Suva.

Alifereti Dere, Sirilo Lovokuro and Ifereimi Tawake also made their debut alongside Aria in that match which the Fijians lost 22-15.

Aria represented the nation at the 1991 Rugby World Cup in Europe.

He died at the Nadi hospital last Sunday (March 15, 2020) after a short illness.
