Royal lunch date

FIJI-BORN British Army Gunner (Gnr) with the Royal Artillery Totivi Sanday was invited to lunch with Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham Palace.

He received the invitation as a reward for achieving the Best Recruit and the Top three Marksmen during the Basic Recruit course.

Gnr Sanday had an opportunity to meet The Queen’s eldest son, Prince Charles, and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall

After Gnr Sanday shook hands with The Queen Elizabeth, he sat down and clapped his hands three times as a mark of traditional iTaukei respect.

Gnr Sanday is undertaking commando training with 29 Commando Regiment of the Royal Artillery.

The training is being conducted at the Royal Marines Training Centre in Lympstone, England.

The 29th Commando Regiment, Royal Artillery, provides artillery support to 3 Commando Brigade of the British Army.

Gnr Sanday will have the right to wear the highly-prized Green Beret and Commando Qualification Dagger Badge after the tough 17-week commando course.

Meanwhile, Gnr Sanday is the son of John Naeqe Sanday, a former military personnel and his mother is Amelia Radinimatuku Sanday who both hail from the village of Tavualevu in Tavua.
