THE Sabeto Roosters will certainly be a team to watch out for come this week’s Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup premier grade semi-final.
The team defeated Saru Dragons 18-12 in the quarter-final.
The Nadi-based team’s brilliant performance in their quarter-final last weekend clash against Dragons saw them book a semi-final spot on Saturday.
Roosters coach Poate Naravu confirmed that despite some minor financial setbacks, they were still able to keep their composure throughout the previous weeks, taking them through the elimination rounds.
Naravu added last week saw the Roosters in full preparation for the quarter-final match, which will now continue as they prepare to take on their opponent in the semi-finals this weekend.
“This year sees the tenth year of the existence of Sabeto Roosters, and to win the Vodafone Cup final would be the best way to celebrate, therefore we will try our level best, as winning would be a bonus for us,” said Naravu.
“Last year I had difficulty trying to rope in all the players as they had gone to other teams and zones, some have left due to work commitments, and I am grateful that they had come back this season to play for Sabeto Roosters,” he said.
The Roosters would be using their key players who are also members of the Fiji Residents squad, to feature in this week’s competition with the likes of Viiame Rakuli, Roger Qoro, Paulino Radrovi, Simon Wise and also Inia Toka, Savenaca and Josua Roko.
Naravu added that an area of improvement is mainly their defence, which they will focus on this week and he hopes to see an improvement come the semi-finals.
“Discipline has also been a reason for their victory over the past weeks and they have always been reminded of the importance of displaying professionalism on and off the field, and then leaving everything to the Almighty,” he further stated.
He has urged all supporters, fans and families to come in numbers and support the Sabeto Roosters this Saturday particularly the vanua o Beteraurau.
