The Tuvatu Gold Mine in Sabeto would begin extraction once road and electricity issues have been addressed, says Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Jone Usamate.

While responding to a question by Opposition MP Viliame Gavoka last Thursday, he said the company had been in full operations since it opened a few years ago.

“Tuvatu, I am glad to say, they are moving full steam ahead,” he said.

“I am hoping in the not too distant future once we rectify issues that is to do with roads and access to power that we need to get to grips with, then we will be able to start extracting.”

He said the ministry’s exploration investigations continued to find new potential sites for future investors.

“What they do in the industry is they look at prospects and produce reports on it and offer it to those who wish to look at it further.

“So that sort of work has already been undertaken in the ministry.”
