Social Democratic Liberal Party member of parliament Ro Filipe Tuisawau has withdrawn his expression of interest to contest the 2022 General Election under the SODELPA banner.
Ro Filipe confirmed this during an interview with this newspaper yesterday and said he made the move after he was advised that the SODELPA Rewa constituency council had decided to choose Ilisoni Vuidreketi and a Jovilisi Suveinakama as candidates.
He said the appointment was done without his knowledge.
“This was done with no consultation with me as a sitting MP from Rewa nor was I invited to any meeting,” he said.
“At the moment we are in Parliament as SODELPA MPs, but I have confirmed a few weeks ago that I have withdrawn my application from SODELPA.”
Ro Filipe said at the moment he was still assessing his situation and was consulting his families and voters about his move.
“These include my Rewa families and those abroad and those who voted for me.
“Once I finish that consultation, I will decide, depending on the feedback on my next move, regarding the party I will be joining.
“I have informed the offices at SODELPA that I have withdrawn my application and that was a few weeks ago and they are aware of that.”
When contacted yesterday, SODELPA leader Viliame Gavoka said he couldn’t comment on the issue.
