RKS out for a win

RATU Kadavulevu School under 19 team is chasing a piece of history in this weekend’s Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League final against defending champion Lelean Memorial School.

With just two years in the competition, the Tailevu north based school is on track to follow the footsteps of their rugby brothers.

RKS narrowly defeated Marist Brothers High School 10-4 in last weekend’s semi-final and the focus is to engrave its name as the new champion in rugby league.

Team manager Saimoni Tukana said reaching the final was a great achievement for the team and the target was to deliver the goods in the final.

He said the final against Lelean would be tough but he had faith in his players to fulfil their goal.

Tukana said the team committed a few basic errors against Marist and would work hard this week rectifying the mistakes before the final.

“This is our second year in the competition and we are planning to achieve what we have been aiming for,” Tukana said.

“We will prepare like all other teams — we respect our opponents and we look forward to a great game.”

A notable player to watch for RKS is fullback Jiuta Wainiqolo. He was impressive against Marist — scoring a try that inspired the side to secure the win.

He said the players would give their best to stamp their mark in the competition.

Meanwhile, Lelean will feature a team each in the final. The U15 side will face Nasinu Secondary School while the U17 team faces Marist.

The final will be held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, Nadroga on Saturday.
