The Ratu Kadavulevu School Eels Under-19 side sent out a warning to other schools in the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League Vodafone competition after defeating Sila Tiger 44-4 to retain the Tanoa Challenge trophy last Saturday.
The challenge from Sila Tigers came in round three of the Eastern Zone Secondary Schools Rugby League Competition.
FSSRL marketing officer Laisiasa Corerega said the delay of round two had given schools time to prepare and he was happy to see good performance from the RKS Eels in maintaining their title.
“The extra week of training had really paid off but hats off to Sila Tigers for taking up the challenge,” he said.
Corerega said he was happy to see strong performances from new teams such as Vashi Muni Eels that defeated Lami Steelers 22-13 in the under-17 division.
“This shows that rugby league is slowly becoming a go-to sport in schools around Fiji.”
