While we engage in economic recovery, we should know that there would always be risks and cases could come into the country, says Ministry of Health’s acting permanent secretary Dr James Fong. Dr Fong said the risks existed because Fiji was a COVID-19 contained country sitting around a huge pandemic.

“As long as the virus is floating around us, there is always risks and our COVID-safe measures insures that if the virus does get to us, it gets to one or two people and stops,” he said.

It was also highlighted that visitors from COVID-19 contained countries would be allowed to enter Fiji without being placed in quarantine, however border restrictions -14 day mandatory quarantine – will continue for other travellers.

Tourism Fiji and Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Tourism yesterday launched the Care Fiji Commitment program.

Dr Fong said as the country moved from mere quarantined to more economic recovery activities, this commitment would represent a means to safely engage in economic recovery.

According to Dr Fong at this point in time Fiji’s total number of tests per case stood 356.6.

He said Fiji’s number of tests per 1000 population was about 30, which was still good compared with global standards. |
