THE Republic of Fiji Military Forces is adamant its officers are safe and have been vaccinated against any disease while being deployed to Vanuatu for Tropical Cyclone Pam relief assistance.
The 50 soldiers, including 12 medical personnel in Vanuatu doing relief work have been vaccinated and are safe from contracting any disease.
RFMF spokesman and Land Force Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho confirmed the soldiers were well.
“All of the soldiers, including the Ministry of Health workers were inoculated prior to leaving Fiji for Vanuatu, so they are safe,” Mr Qiliho said.
The contingent left Fiji for Vanuatu on March 23, and is expected to return early next month.
Funding for this deployment was accessed from the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund totalling $250,000.
